Disability Services

Supported Living1 As aging parents, caring for three children with severe disabilities, Mary and Bill didn't know where to turn.

Having children with mental and physical disabilities requiring full time care and support, the Mary and Bill Chamberlain struggled meet the demanding needs of their adult children. That is when they found Volunteers of America's Supported Living program. Click here to learn how our Supported Living program empowers independence for individuals with disabilities.

Volunteers of America prides itself on connecting people with developmental disabilities to living situations and experiences that foster independence and enhance self-esteem.Our services give those with developmental disabilities opportunities for community involvement and the richness that life affords anyone who is motivated to search for it.

Our Disability Services include our state-recognized Supported Living program and our Recreational Options guided tour and recreation experiences.

Each is designed specifically for adults with developmental disabilities, fostering independence at the level each individual can achieve successfully.  Each program operates with a mission focus, knowing that as it reaches its goals that an adult with developmental disabilities will be choosing life experiences that help them be the best that they can be ... just like anyone else.

A special THANK YOU to Washington LawnScapes for donating their time and talents to improve the homes of our Supported Living clients. Learn more about LawnScapes here. Below are some pictures of a recent project they did to install sod at one of our homes.

“There is no way a company, like Washington LawnScapes, valuing its own leaders, can ignore the leadership of the Volunteers of America in the community. As a landscaping company performing maintenance on houses run by VOA to care for the intellectually and developmentally disabled, our respect for this organization has only grown as we watch the impact these people keep making in individual lives.” - Bryan Fosmark, LawnScapes
