Companion Services Available
Volunteers of America works with families to match companions to needs
Our mission is to enable seniors and those with disabilities to live independent, dignified lives for as long as possible, in their own homes, group homes or assisted living situations. Sometimes, our Senior Companion Program is the only resource available to assist with transportation, companionship, in-home care, and more. With help, these people are able to engage in a more active lifestyle and avoid the high costs of institutional care.
Because each individual is different, we tailor our services to each client. Some of these services include:
- Companionship and socialization
- Advocacy, information, and resource referral
- Peer counseling, active listening, reading
- Escort and transportation to medical appointments, shopping and social outings
- Light meal preparation
- Light chores
- Relief for family caregivers
- Translation and interpretation in various languages
- Special projects, arts, writing, exercise
All our services are provided free or at a minimum charge to the recipients. To support our expenses, we do accept much needed donations. Partial funding is provided by the federal Corporation for National and Community Service.
