Community Building Days
Promoting Community Building Days
The larger mission of Volunteers of America Sky Valley Resource Center is to build community and engage local residents in community issues, initiatives and resource development. We believe strongly that the more community members connect with each other, the more they will want to come together in times of celebration, and need.
Sometimes it takes just plain fun to create this spirit of connected community, so Sky Valley Resource Center does what it can to bring joy into the area.
Annual Winterfest Holiday Shopping Bazaar
Winterfest, the popular holiday shopping bazaar sponsored by Volunteers of America Sky Valley Resource Center, always attracts holiday shoppers from around the region. Traditionally held on the first Saturday in December, Winterfest brings a festive spirit to the Sultan High School Commons at 13715 - 310th Ave SE in Sultan, and delights all in attendance with wonderfully crafted booth items, scrumptious food, prize raffles, and holiday entertainment courtesy of the high school’s very talented musical programs.
Community Volunteer Days
There is something about caring for one another that ties people and communities together. Its the act of service, something that often binds hearts and refreshes a respect for the human spirit. Community volunteer days are a great way to make this happen, all the while making an impact on community and enjoying yourself too.
One recent group brought 50-70 members of three churches from Monroe to paint all the cabins and the stage area at the summer camp property. They also ran new (to code) electrical wiring to the barn and stage, weeded, and split all the fallen trees and wood. Group leadership decided to skip worship that Sunday, and instead encourage their congregations to worship by doing public service. What a fun, blessed day.
