What types of volunteer project does the Action Team do over the year? We volunteer every month during our Action Team Captain meetings. Check out the 2010 – 2011 volunteer projects!
Do I have to join for the entire year? Yes, our program runs from August until May. You are allowed 2 excused absences throughout the year. We ask for a 1 year commitment because, by being a part of this unique program, you receive a number of benefits that you can’t find elsewhere. Benefits of participating in the Western Washington Action Team program include:
• Feel good about helping children, seniors and animals in your community
• Fulfill volunteer hours for graduation
• Opportunity to receive a $1,500 college scholarship
• Receive a free YAT Captain T-Shirt
• Receive a personalized letter of recommendation for future employers or school
• Receive on-field recognition at a Seattle Mariner’s game at the end-of-year event

When does the Action Team meet? We will meet monthly, typically the 4th Saturday of the month.

How do you select Action Team Captains? Volunteers of America Staff review applications, and in some cases an informal phone interview is conducted.

Do I have to reapply to be Youth Action Team Captain each year? Yes, this year we require returning Action Team Captains to fill out the same application as new applicants.
How many Captains are a part of the Action Team? There are 50 Action Team Captain positions each year.
Parents
Do parents have to attend monthly meetings? No, parents do not have to attend Action Team Captains meetings, but they are invited to the August Orientation at the beginning of the year to learn about the Youth Action Team program.
Do Action Team Captains have to transport themselves to VOA? At this time yes. Action Team Captains are asked to make arrangements to get themselves to and from meetings. However, VOA provides transportation to volunteer projects during the meetings held in Seattle. We are located at:

I’d like to get my class involved with Youth Action Team, what should I do next? Contact Cathie Hutton, Youth Action Team Leader at 425-259-3191 x2477 or e-mail vista-yat@voaww.org to set up a time for her to come to your classroom for a 10-15 minute presentation.
Do school contacts have to attend monthly meetings? No, but you’re welcome to if you’d like!
