Mission Statement
Volunteers of America Western Washington, a Christian organization, is dedicated to reaching, serving and empowering diverse individuals, families and communities.

Our Faith in Action, a powerful force for change

Looking around the world and in the downtrodden streets of our own neighborhoods, it’s sometimes difficult to be sure compassion and goodness exists. Yet your belief in the goodness of God can be no better expressed than by actively helping your fellow human beings-materially and spiritually. That’s why we at Volunteers of America understand and embrace the firm belief expressed by our founder, Ballington Booth, when he said, "It is not enough to provide economic security and material comforts. Those who strive for man’s betterment must seek it first through touching the spirit."

We Embrace Faith in Action

Volunteers of America is a movement of faith in action, an ecumenical community of faith united in service to God and to humanity. Our Christian spiritual foundation truly sets Volunteers of America apart from most other human services organizations.

Compassion, forgiveness, and hope motivate us. These building blocks of our faith have led us to create programs and services that go to the heart of our community’s needs. The combined resources of enthusiastic volunteers, professional staff, and dedicated supporters from many faith traditions enable anyone connected with Volunteers of America to make the world a more compassionate place.

We Minister Where We Are Needed

Volunteers of America Western Washington has five commissioned ministers on staff, yet we do not have customary houses of worship. Instead, our ministry takes us to the streets and to people in need. There we find our community; there we practice our faith. We offer spiritual support to our family of employees and volunteers, as well as performing weddings, funerals and other ministerial services when requested.
