Belief that community spirit is the secret to wiping poverty from the earth was a burning fire that drove Vollunteers of America’s founders, Ballington and Maud Booth, to perform extraordinary work for human kind. They believed intensely that individual communities are a rich source of employees and volunteers with boundless energy and intense generosity.

Volunteers of America Western Washington still holds to the faith that local communities remain a dynamic source for high quality employees, and our conviction regarding their compassion and effectiveness continues to hold true.

Today, almost 450 regular staff are making a tremendous difference in the lives of others, offering valuable job skills, and gaining industry experience. The power of these paid professional staff enables us, in Ballington Booth’s words, "to go wherever we are needed-and do whatever comes to hand."
