Youth Action Team: Calling All High School Students!
The numbers say it best: Action Teams are hitting to win all over the country
To date, more than 19,000 students nationwide have made a positive impact in their communities through the Action Teams, helping over 90,000 people in their very own neighborhoods. Volunteers of America Western Washington connects Action Team students with local programs and people who need the help of energetic teens.
How it works: Students are selected as Action Team Captains and work to spread the Major League Baseball players’ message about the importance of community service. Students participate in Volunteers of America organized service projects, participate in leadership & character-building activities and get recognized for their efforts in many ways, including taking part in a pre-game ceremony with the Seattle Mariners!
The Action has started! This year, we are excited to have Action Teams from Everett, Mariner and Sultan High Schools. We are now recruiting for the 2010-2011 school year, so if your school might be interested, let us know! Click here for more information.
UPCOMING EVENT: For the first time, The Action Team & the Everett Aquasox have teamed up to hold High School Pride & Provide Night on Saturday, August 28th! All high schools in the area are encouraged to participate in this back-to-school supply drive and pride competition. Both the high school with the most representatives at the game on Saturday, August 28th and who brings in the most school supply donations will receive a great prize. Click here to reserve a seat for you, friends & family today, or visit www.aquasox.com/groups and enter the code word "pride" (lower-case). **If your school does not currently have an Action Team but would like to have their own donation bin at the stadium gates, please e-mail Action Team Coordinator Marcy Waldman at Vista-yat@voaww.org.
Congratulations to this year’s Action Team scholarship recipients! We are so pleased to announce that in April, three of our Western Washington Action Team Captains were awarded the Major League Baseball Players Trust $1,500 scholarship! Mariner HS Senior Nykole Mitchell, Sultan HS Senior Nic Gregg & Sultan HS Junior Fabiola Arroyo were chosen by the Trust in recgonition of their commitment to academics, passion for helping others and dedication to serving as leaders in their schools and communities. We wish Nykole & Nic the best of luck as they pursue their college careers next year. Great work, guys!
