Learn what all tenants should know

Renter Certification Program
The goal of this program is to support renters who have problematic rental histories.  Using training and one-on-one assistance, our landlord/tenant training specialists help individuals identify issues in their rental history preventing them from obtaining housing.  Once these issues are identified, a personalized plan of action can be created to address the past, and move forward to begin to build a positive rental history.

Specialized training
The program includes a three-hour training, which gives participants:

  • Customized training in Landlord/Tenant law
  • Overview of what landlords screen for in selecting tenants
  • Soft skills on how to resolve conflict constructively
  • A "tool box" of resources to assist a tenant in successfully obtaining housing

See the list of upcoming training locations and dates below.  Call the Dispute Resolution Center of Snohomish, Island and Skagit Counties to enroll in a class, 425-339-1335 or 800-280-4770.

One-on-one assistance
After completion of the training, tenants can talk with the landlord/tenant training specialist to review rental history and create a plan that may include:

  • Mediating past disputes
  • Consolidating debt
  • Establishing payment plans
  • Attending budgeting classes
  • Identifying affordable housing and other community resources
  • Reviewing a tenant’s credit report
