The daily exodus from the area also creates difficulty for residents and families to connect with their community. According to a 2006 Federal Study entitled Communities that Care, low community connection is a huge determining factor in many community challenges, particularly youth violence and substance abuse. Sky Valley Resource Center encourages partnerships to create solutions Volunteers of America Sky Valley Resource Center, the state-designated family support center for the Skykomish Valley, understands the threat facing this community’s families and works with advisory boards and interested community individuals and groups to continually develop programs and initiatives to address the growing problem. We prioritize time with middle and high school youth through our Saturday night Safe Stop, and many community clubs and groups use our facility each month as a scheduled community meeting place (see current monthly schedule on the ’Community Resources’ page.).
