Offering Community Resources
Joe Box has health problems, both hips replaced and a kidney removed due to cancer. But that didn’t stop him from adopting four of his grandchildren, and taking in two more because they needed a place to stay. This is a man with a big heart, a big family - kids ages 7 to 16 - and a small budget.
When he came to "Backpack Day" recently at Volunteers of America Sky Valley Resource Center, he picked up backpacks stuffed with school supplies for everyone and told us he relied on community organizations like the Center, Boys and Girls Club and Camp Volasuca to keep his kids active and engaged. He smiled down at the backpacks, "This kind of support is a tremendous asset to my family."
Joe received his backpacks from the Center’s effort that distributed 143 backpacks with school supplies to local youth in need. This was in addition to the supplies sent to local elementary and middle school counselors to help youth from funds donated for that purpose.
