Overview

The primary goal of the rental assistance program is to address certain needs in the community resulting from the coronavirus pandemic and to prevent evictions by paying up to three months of past due, current and future rent to landlords for eligible participants. The Eviction Prevention Case Aide is responsible for coordinating with the Housing team, landlords and program participants to access and follow up on the rent assistance process while providing excellent customer service.

Principal Activities
  • Work closely with By & For organizations – VOA’s partners in providing Homelessness Prevention services to people of color who have disproportionally been impacted by Covid-19 outbreak and housing crisis

  • Answer phone calls in Spanish inquiring about the rental assistance process

  • Screen tenants for eligibility

  • Collaborate with Housing Director and By & For partners to ensure high quality client services and data entry

  • Support Rent Assistance Administrator with proofreading applications in Spanish

  • Reply to landlords’ inquiries about rent payment status, and schedule payment pick-ups as needed

  • Completing monthly reports for client services and expenditures

  • Other DRC duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred; or equivalent experience

  • Excellent customer service and communication skills

  • Demonstrated belief in alternative dispute resolution processes and ability to stay neutral and unbiased when mediating disputes

  • Effective organizational skills, and attention to detail and accuracy

  • Highly developed interpersonal skills with the ability to work cooperatively with staff, landlords and participants

  • Ability to prioritize and work independently

  • High proficiency in MS Office programs, especially Excel

  • Ability to work in the office or remotely as needed

  • Bilingual Spanish - fluent in speaking, reading and writing.
